How to be a child in adulthood
Children offer adults a dynamic lens to re-experience life's wonders. While adults have honed rationality, regulation, and long-term vision. Children remind us to; embrace curiosity and spontaneity, explore the world through awe and fascination. Clinically or developmentally, childhood is a different phase from adulthood.
Analytically, we recognise; childhood's formative experiences shape adulthood, adulthood's perspectives reframe childhood memories and each stage informs and influences the other. No clear doors close or open between phases,, life unfolds as a fluid, interconnected narrative.
As a therapist, we don't dig into the past to upsurge emotions of regret, repression, or regressions of childhood, but rather get the child alive again that has been way too pressurised and taxed in the adult world to stay with the conventions. Children's Day serves as a poignant reminder to reconnect with our inner child and also let children be children. Happy Children's Day!
